SAP BARCODING FOR ASSET
MAINTENANCE
This customer is a petroleum marketer and makes use of all kinds of tanks for storage and transportation of petroleum products. Periodically, these tanks (and their associated accessories) need to be delivered to the original vendor for service. After servicing has been performed, the tank (plus accessories) is returned to the customer.
When you’re a billion dollar business and you’re running your business on SAP this seemingly simple process can be slow, painful and error prone.
SAP BARCODING FOR
SHIPPING
In the customer’s business process, due to the many variations in the bill of materials for any given shipping order, many accessory items are not stored as inventory. Rather, they are ordered on a purchase order for pickup by a driver when a shipping order calls for those parts. When the pickup driver arrives with the parts, the goods receipt posting needs to be committed as soon as possible such that the items can be loaded / issued for shipment. Currently, the goods receipt transaction is done manually using paper documents. The delay in posting this transaction leads to delays in shipping. The customer needed the ability to post this transaction as the driver arrives, so that the parts may be loaded for shipping immediately.
SAP BARCODING FOR
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
Customer has their SAP system defined with a limited number of storage locations in order to keep things simple for shop floor users. By doing so, the shop floor users will not need to look for inventory for tank accessories in SAP; since all tank accessories will be stored in the same storage location. However, this causes a problem when month end inventory count is performed. SAP will only display the total inventory for any given material in a storage location. Physically, the material is stored in multiple areas, and tracked by multiple UPC codes (which means materials are stored by multiple Unit of Measure (UOM) denominations) in the same storage location.
SAP BARCODING FOR
DISCRETE MANUFACTURING
With manufacturing facilities in the US, Europe and Asia, the company needed to quickly implement a company-wide bar coding system to support their recent upgrade to SAP 4.7. In fact, the project requirement was to go live 30-days after project start. Due to the short time frame involved, the customer was looking for something that could be deployed quickly and reliably but then extended by their internal IT staff in the future. Finally, the delivered solution was required to work properly with the existing SAP Single Sign-On (SSO).
